Honoring Deacon Derrick Parmer

In this installment of our Deacon Spotlight: Servants of Strength series, we are proud to honor Deacon Derrick Parmer, a passionate and purpose-driven servant whose life reflects commitment to both faith and community.
At just 34 years old, Deacon Parmer has already made a profound impact through his work and ministry. Originally from Buffalo, New York, he relocated to Rochester in 2018, bringing with him a heart for service and a mission to uplift others. A proud Human Services graduate, Derrick has built a career focused on compassionate care and community support.
His professional journey includes impactful work at Mary Cariola Children’s Center, where he provided critical support to individuals with mental and physical disabilities in various settings—from schools to group homes and day programs. Currently, he serves as a Youth Support Specialist, working with troubled youth to help them successfully transition and reintegrate into the community. His work is not just a job—it's a ministry of presence, mentorship, and restoration.
Deacon Parmer is also a loving husband, celebrating his marriage each year on May 18, and a deeply family-oriented man whose character is marked by humility, approachability, and unwavering faith. He is committed to walking the path that God has laid before him, serving others with strength and intention.
In addition to his community service, Derrick brings balance and personality to his journey—he’s a loyal sports fan, proudly supporting the Buffalo Bills, L.A. Lakers, and Boston Red Sox. His passion for life is matched only by his heart for people.
We thank Deacon Derrick Parmer for his service to First Genesis Baptist Church and the wider Rochester community. His story reminds us that faith, when paired with compassion and action, can transform lives.
