This week, we honor Brother Lunzer B. Evans Jr., a man whose natural leadership and unwavering faith have made him a pillar in both his family and the First Genesis community.
Raised as the oldest of five siblings—and the eldest among many of his cousins—Brother Evans was looked up to from an early age. He quickly learned that leadership wasn’t just about being in charge, but about being present, dependable, and willing to serve. Church life—attending Sunday school, singing in the choir, and ushering—helped shape his leadership style by teaching him how to listen, follow direction, and serve with humility.
As he grew into adulthood, those leadership qualities continued to blossom. He became a supervisor at Kodak, where he not only led teams but also built others up. He developed and organized training programs and educational classes to help his colleagues advance—always encouraging those around him to believe in their potential.
At First Genesis Baptist Church, Brother Evans continues to be a responsible and dedicated member. He is a faithful supporter of the church, the pastor, and the Men’s Ministry, and serves actively on the Men’s Usher Board. Whether offering guidance, lending a helping hand, or simply being a calm and consistent presence, his commitment to service is felt throughout the congregation.
Brother Evans is especially known for his ability to uplift those who feel forgotten or discouraged. His belief that “everyone can achieve when given a chance and some encouragement” has been a lifeline to many. He leads not just with words, but with action—and his compassion and confidence in others have helped transform lives.
Brother Lunzer B. Evans Jr., we thank you for leading with integrity, encouraging with love, and always showing up when it matters most. Your life is a living example of what it means to lead with faith.
